The Artists Market at Greenbriar Mall has been one of the great successes of the National Black Arts
Festival. Featuring works from over 150 artists from across the United States
and Belgium, the Artists Market allows buyers to meet the artists responsible
for their favorite images and to own original art work from those artists.
The Greenbriar Mall is located in the Southwest area of Atlanta, and will
also feature hands on activities in its lower level for children to create
their own masterpieces. The artists market will run from July 11th to July
19th; some artists will hold booths for the entire nine days while others
will be present for the first four days, giving up their booths for incoming
artists who will sell during the last 5 days. Entries into the market were
juried by three esteemed art aficionados, E.J. Montgomery, Exhibitions coordinator
for the United States Information Agency, Yvonne Edwards Tucker, Professor
of Art at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida, and Shirley
Woodson, Supervisor of Art Education in Detroit Public Schools. The Greenbriar
Artists Market is curated by K. Joy Peters, Professor of Fine Art at Atlanta
Metropolitan University.
The Artists Market at Underground Atlanta was instituted this year
in response to the overwhelming success of the artists market at Greenbriar
Mall. The market will have 30 booths for approximately 45 artists who will
sell original art throughout the festival. Some added attractions will be
the "Paint Out," wherein artists will create new masterpieces
daily there on the premises to be bid upon and purchased upon completion.
There will also be a plethora of events and activities for children in the
mall. The market in Underground will bring the presence of the National
Black Arts Festival downtown to a venue that attracts great numbers of tourists
year round. The Underground Atlanta Artists' Market is will run from July
11th to July 19th. The Artists' Market in Underground Atlanta is curated
by Louise Todd, of Fine Arts By Todd, one of the premier Black Art dealers
in the country.
