| James Marsters plays Spike. A vicious vampire who already has the deaths of two slayers to his credit. Once known as William the Bloody, Spike was names for his brutal tactics of torturing his victims with rail road spikes. Throughout the second season, we have seen him go through many struggles, especially with his love, Drusilla. When Spike and Drusilla first entered the Buffy scene, Drusilla was weak after being attacted by an angry mob. Spike's purpose for moving to sunnydale was for her to regain her strength. While attempting this and trying to kill her sire, Angel, Buffy entered to ruin their fun. Drusilla however, was finally restored to full strength, but not before a large organ fell on Spike. The organ accident left Spike in a wheelchair. Drusilla was now at full strength and intended to take over the world. And when Angel reverted back into the evil angelus, he decided to take Drusilla away from the defenceless Spike. In 'Becoming' (the season finale) Spike joined forces with Buffy to keep Angel from sucking the world into Hell. He revealed to Dru and Angelus that he could now walk again by beating Angelus with a crow bar. While Angelus and Buffy fought Spike took off with Dru and left Sunnydale. Spike returned in season 3 for only one episode: 'Lovers Walk'. He came back in search of revenge and a way to fix his relationship with Drusilla, who had left him. He returned later in the forth season, bringing along his new girlfriend Harmony. Spike was searching for a ring called the 'Gem of Amarra' and when he found it things got interresting. He did however loose the ring and was forced to return to Sunnydale seeking revenge yet again! Instead he was caught by commandos from an underground operation called 'The Initiative'. He did escape, but an implant in his head now prevents him from hurting humans. Promising information on the initiative to the slayer, Spike was given blood and a place to stay that was away from the sun. Spike then found out in the episode 'Doomed' while he can't hurt humans he can hurt demons. In season 5 Spike leaves Harmony and confesses his love for... BUFFY! Buffy is disgusted and wants nothing to do with him. The slayer and the scooby gang turn against him, but he persists. He forces, geek, Warren to build a robot buffy 'to keep him company'. The hell God, Glory, gets hold of Spike in her search for 'the key' (Buffy's new found little sister Dawn). Glory tortures Spike for information. When Buffy finds out Spike told her nothing she realises Spike really does love her. The gang flees to the desert to hide from Glory. Spike promises Buffy he will protect Dawn with his life. In the season finally, 'The Gift', Spikes promise is put to the test. He has to save Dawn from being sacrificed. He climbed the sacrificial tower and faught 'Doc', a demon who worshiped Glory. Doc stabbed spike and threw him off of the tower. Spike lay in the rubble. When he regained consciousness he found Buffy dead. He blamed her death on himself as she had taken her life to save Dawn. He felt he had not kept his promise and had betrayed Buffy. He cannot forgive himself. |
