Joining The Navy

Your local Navy recruiter is usually your first contact with the Navy. If you are in Allen, Barren, Butler, Cumberland, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, or Warren Counties in Kentucky, call (270)781-7425 to speak to your local recruiter. Collect calls are accepted. If you are not in any of these areas, call 1-800-USA-NAVY or visit Navy.com to find out how to contact your local recruiter. Your recruiter will make you aware of Navy opportunities and help you plan your future. The Navy offers hundreds of jobs at many levels of responsibility for young men and women who meet the physical, mental, and moral entry qualifications.

Once you contact your local Navy recruiter, several important steps will follow:

INITIAL INTERVIEW
You will be asked about your medical history, interests, hobbies, education, and any police record or drug use (if applicable). It is extremely important that you answer all questions openly and honestly. ALL ANSWERS ARE CONFIDENTIAL.

ENLISTMENT SCREENING TEST (EST)
This 45 minute, 65 question test covers word knowledge and mathematics ability.

ARMED SERVICES VOCATIONAL APTITUDE BATTERY (ASVAB) INFO PAMPHLET
If you have not already taken the actual test in high school, you will be given this pamphlet to become familiar with the basic enlistment qualification test: the ASVAB. The ASVAB helps to determine the job areas you are best suited for.

MOVIES
You will be shown four movies concerning Navy recruit training; the Navy's policy on drug abuse; preexisting medical problems; and the Navy's sexual harassment and equal opportunity policy.
