Oliver's Army
The life and times of Navvy manager Oliver Sunter.
Oliver Sunter is the fourth ever Navvy manager. He followed in the footsteps of his close personal friends Chris Way, Chris Dawkes and Ian Gardner in managing Navvies FC. Despite being their successor he has been able to keep any possible rivalries outside his game plan and has given all three important positions within the club. Clearly Oli is a man of great generosity and love, but where does the real Oli come from?
Oliver Sunter was born in early June 1983 in the conference room at Elland Road stadium after his mum had been waiting to collect his dad at full time. This auspicious birthplace was what gave Oli his distinctive love of Leeds United FC, and the game in general. He initially persued this interest as a promising young goalkeeper at Pudsey St Lawrence, where he first met a young Christopher Dawkes, now his right hand man at the Navvies FC. However, tradgedy was never far from the the young Oliver and his career hopes were dashed when he discovered, on his eighteenth birthday, that he had a genetic condition, a severe fermentation induced alergy to physical movement, that would end his playing career. This forced Oli into a downward spiral of drink and drugs that culminated his dropping out of the club's playing staff and becoming a student at nearby Leeds University.
In his three years at Leeds Oli was able to learn to control his disease by taking complimentary therapy at William Hills. Fortunately this therapy was extended around the nation as he began to use fruit machines to fight his drinking blues. However, as with all miracle cures, eventually the Gambling therapy, so promoted by Dr Hill, Dr James and Dr Coral, began to cause as many problems as the old ailments. Oli is currently involved in a trial for Only Fools and Horses therapy, combined with Football Manager sessions. Whilst many worry he will not see the benefits, Oli is confident that this combination will be a success for him.
It was at this juncture that Oli took over the reigns of the Navvies FC. He had already played a rather inauspicious couple of games as he tried to come to terms with his problems. Since becoming manager Oli has laid down a strong managerial structure at the club, involving old managerial rival Chris Way as Official Navvy Kitman and Media Officer and youngster Tom Knapp as Club Secretary. However, his firt act as manager was to give the captain's armband to stalwart friend Chris Dawkes, a gesture which made even the most hardened Navvies shed a tear.
