The Marine Society is the world's oldest public maritime charity providing an extensive range of services in support of seafarers worldwide.


The Maritime Engineering Society of Australia is a Technical Society of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, with membership open to all interested in maritime engineering matters. MARENSA was founded in 1997, and has a growing membership of about 200 members. MARENSA is involved in national policies with regard to the shipbuilding and ship repair industries, and provides advice to the Institution of Engineers Australia, in regard to the qualifications and professional development of naval architects, marine engineers and technologists involved in the industry.

The Naval Dockyards Society
Naval Dockyards Society is concerned with any aspect of naval dockyards:construction, history, workforce as well as the surrounding communities. Formed in 1996 and formally constituted on March 1st, 1997, the Society has the backing of the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. The Society charges an annual subscription of A35 (US5); the membership year runs from 1st April through 31st March. At the last count membership stood at 89.

OOAE stands for Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. The two technical divisions of ASME International have merged in 1999. The Ocean Engineering Division (OED) and Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering Division (OMAE) have combined to form the Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering Division (OOAE). The OOAE Division holds its annual International OMAE Conferences. The OOAE Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International promotes technological progress and international cooperation in all areas of ocean engineering, and recovering resources in hazardous environments, such as offshore and the arctic, such that safety, environmental and economic successes are achieved. The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is an internationally recognized nonprofit, technical, professional society of individual members serving the maritime and offshore industries and their suppliers. SNAME is dedicated to advancing the art, science and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineering, encouraging the exchange and recording of information, sponsoring applied research, offering career guidance and supporting education, and enhancing the professional status and integrity of its membership. The Society's scope includes all aspects of research, production, maintenance and operation of ships, submersibles, yachts, boats, offshore and ocean bottom structures, hydrofoils and surface effect ships. It administers and supports an extensive Technical and Research (T&R) Program involving over 1,000 individuals as voluntary members and permanent staff in cooperation with government and regulatory agencies, scientific and research laboratories, academic institutions, and the marine industry. Founded in 1893, the Society comprises over 10,000 individuals throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. Membership is open to all qualified applicants in or associated with the maritime, offshore, and small craft industries.
