ABS was founded in 1862 as a not-for profit self-regulatory agency of the marine industry to promote the safety of life and property at sea. Since that time, it has performed this function through a ship classification procedure, which determines the structural and mechanical fitness of ships and other marine structures for their intended service.

The Cyprus Bureau of Shipping
The Cyprus Bureau of Shipping has been in operation since 1987 and through its offices in Limassol Cyprus and Piraeus Greece provides classification services through a fully certified ISO9001 quality management system, based on its rules for classification of vessels. It is fully authorised by the Cyprus Flag Administration to carry out surveys and issue certificates on its behalf. CBS also represents the American Bureau of Shipping in Cyprus whit which a dual class agreement has been signed.


Det Norske Veritas (DNV) is an independent, autonomous foundation established in 1864 with the objective of safeguarding life, property and the environment. DNV has 4000 employees and 278 offices in 100 countries. As one of the world's leading maritime classification societies, Det Norske Veritas establishes rules for the construction of ships and mobile offshore platforms and carries out in-service inspection of ships and mobile offshore units.

Germanischer Lloyd
Independent international classification society for safety and quality control. The society offers technical expertise to industry throughout the world. Our task is the surveying and certification of safety and qualtity of ships, offshore structures and other industrial units, as well as quality assurance systems in compliance with the international ISO 9000 series, ISM and ISMA.

Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR), the parent organisation of the LR Group, is the world's leading ship classification society; it classes around 100 million gross tonnage of shipping, comprising more than 6,600 ships. Working closely with its subsidiary and associate companies LR provides marine, offshore and industrial survey and technical services, enhancing safety, improving quality and protecting the environment worldwide.

Nippon Kaiji Kyokai
Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, known as ClassNK, has earned a solid reputation for its long-standing dedication to safeguarding life and property at sea and preventing marine pollution through the establishment of universally recognized standards for the design, construction and maintenance of ships and other marine structures.

RINA-Registro Italiano Navale Group
RINA plays an important role in the shipping industry and in the protection of the marine environment in cooperation with other interested parties, i.e. Administrations, Owners and Insurance Companies.
