The refit of

Tortuga

Delivery was taken on December 22, 2001 when she cruised in near gale conditions from Willoughby Spit in Norfolk to Hampton to begin her refit as Tortuga.   In 2004 she was moved to Yankee Point on Virginia's Northern Neck

The Original Refit Included:

  • A new motor

  • stern pulpit and new lifelines,

  • cockpit halyard for the mainsail

  • a gas barbecue grill.

  • sturdier bronze deck cleats, replaced cam cleats.

  • interior lights and outlets were added

  • the door to the forward stateroom was restored

  • A Bimini top

To complete the refit of Tortuga, interior surfaces were re-painted, new carpet laid, a new head, TV, and stereo system  were added. The auto-pilot was repaired and re-calibrated and the electronic depth sounder was replaced.

Tortuga now boasts GPS capability.

As a final touch, new custom curtains were designed and fabricated by a New York seamstress and installed over the portholes.

In September 2003, Hurricane Isabel threatened and there was no place to hide the three ton Tortuga.  She rode it out in the Salt Ponds of Hampton without a scratch.
