Nautibeagle's Bonaire Travel Tips:

  • Use an American carrier to get there.

  • Take sturdy dive booties, sharp coral covers the shoreline.

  • Most rentals have manual transmission, get someone else to drive.

  • Leave nothing in the truck while you are in the water.

  • Take time to drive around the island and see the sights.

With the Wild Ass Divers

After hearing so much about Bonaire and the wonderful diving.  Nautibeagle headed to Bonaire in July 2005.  Nautibeagle met up with Krystie and Joe from Wisconsin.  One day while driving around the island, we came upon wild asses, and took the name The Wild Ass Divers.

The attraction of Bonaire is the shore diving.  Most sights are close to shore and most diving packages include a truck and all the filled tanks you can breath.  And that is about it.  The scenery underwater was average, and the sea life appeared to be sparse.  Keep in mind that is based on only one week of diving out of the year.  Wild Ass Divers stayed at Buddy's Dive Resort which has some of the most helpful desk staff Nautibeagle has ever encountered..

Getting to Boanire can be a challenge.  Currently there are no direct flights from the US.  Chris and Joe were booked on Air Jamaica, but never actually boarded an Air Jamaica plane.  They arrived late on Bonaire Excel from Aruba after threatening to camp out in the airport.  They ended up buying their own return ticket in Bonaire as Air Jamaica's planes were all "too busy" to fly them home on the return trip.

Bonaire Photo Gallery

In July 2005 I finally went digital with a Reefmaster 300.  Excellent and easy to use.  Plus, you can simply delete photos that don't come out right.
