Submission or control? Interesting debate. For me, submission is a choice I make - when I am in the mood. It is a conscious decision on my part to allow another to 'weave the fantasy'. But to be controlled? Not in this lifetime! I watched an interesting struggle at work today. A lady resigned because her husband doesn't want her working there anymore (or so she claims). Regardless, she was clearly upset about the decision, and has no idea which direction she would like to take her career in. As I spoke with her, in the back of my mind I was thinking, "What kind of person makes those demands of another? And what kind of person allows someone to dictate their life in that manner?" This lady was not submitting to her husband's request - she was ceding to his demand for control.
What a bloody shame.
In the chat rooms, the same dichotomy occurs. Some persons are clearly advocates of D/s in the purest sense, recognizing that it is a choice of both partners to indulge the other's wishes. Respect is (and should always be) the number one value of both parties. Others, however, are merely there to indulge in their little "power trips", to satisfy their narcissistic need of control, without regard for the psychological impact of their actions. Unfortunately, the victims have usually become emotionally attached before the controlling behaviour exhibits itself. And the scars are invisible.
Pity the poor bastard that tries to 'control' me... *grin*
But, that's merely my opinion...
