Piano In The Dark
Just when
the days start getting colder
I walk
the streets I never knew
And if
you could see
What’s
come over me
Then you
would know
Cause
I’m walking free
The wind
at my back
Bathed in
afterglow…
She sat at the piano, enveloped by the music that was coming
from the grand piano. She so loved that thing, it was her escape, her outflow,
her discharge. Her fingers flowing ever so skillfully over the perfect ivory
keys. She didn’t notice him at the doorway. She just kept playing.
And as I
sit here in this dark room
All I
seem to feel is light
In the
blood of this life that’s ours
And if
you could see
What’s
come over me
Then you
would know
Cause
I’m walking free
Then
wind at my back
Bathed
in afterglow…
He often wonder if she loved that piano more than him. She
treated it like her baby, every time after they make love she would seek out
that piano and just play. It didn’t really matter what…she would go from Mozart
to Vanessa Carlton any night. He walked the long floor of the parlor room in
the enormous house that they shared together. She had insisted on getting this
particularly one out of all the ones they had viewed, she loved the parlor, she
said it would be the perfect place to set her piano.
As he reached the bench on which she was seated he stood behind
her. He watched her fingers glide across the ivory. As the song came to an end
she leaned back to feel a hard body behind her. She turned her head, her green
eyes met with dark blue ones. She had felt his eyes before he even stepped
across the threshold at the opening of the parlor.
“Hello.”
“Hey.”
She turned back to the piano, but before she could begin playing
again, he was seated next to her and began playing. It was one of her favorite
songs, she realized it was cheesy but she had always had a thing for Richard
Marx and his love songs.
Whenever
I’m weary
From the battles that rage in my head
You make sense of madness
When my sanity hangs by a thread
I lose my way but still you seem to understand
Now and forever I will be your man
Sometimes I just hold you
Too caught up in me to see
I’m
holding a fortune
That heaven had given to me
I’ll try to show you each and every way I can
Now and forever I will be your man…
He continued to play as she just closed her eyes and leaned
against him. That was her favorite thing, that’s what made her fall in love
with him, his voice.
She let his smooth voice sooth her, all the anxiety quickly
evaporated as he continued singing. She continued to listen to his calming
voice lull away all her worries.
The song ended much too soon for her and she was knocked back
into the real world by the deafening silence all around them. She turned to him
and he was still staring at the keys. He leaned back and turned his head
towards her. She was just staring at him for what seemed like forever.
He took in all that she wore, she was wearing just a robe, his
robe. It was big on him and she was much smaller than he was, she swam in it.
He had proposed to her that night and she was refused, saying
she needed time to think. Claiming she wasn’t ready for that big of step yet,
soon but not just yet. He said he would give her all the time she needed, but
he couldn’t wait forever.
“I…I…”
“Shh…” he lifted one finger to her lips, she pressed them again his finger,
lightly kissing it. He removed his
finger and replaced it with his lips. He gently kissed her, coaxing her into a
deeper kiss. He skillfully untied the belt of the robe and let it fall. He reached
his hand inside and caressed her soft skin, she had a slight stomach for she
was pregnant, had been for three months now. That was the reason why she
refused his proposal, she was afraid it was because she was carrying his baby.
If only she could know that he had bought the ring three weeks
before there was even a slight suspicion of her pregnancy. He just didn’t know
when or how to pop the question and he figured that night was as good as any
other.
He laid his hand on her stomach, she slowly back away from his
kiss and stared into his eyes. In the dark she couldn’t see what he was
feelings. She just saw the reflection of the moon in them.
She covered his hand with hers and looked down at them together.
Her robe was now slightly ajar, showing her small perky breast and her stomach.
She loved the fact that was going to have his baby, but she still wasn’t sure
how he felt about it quite yet. He always said he was happy and excited about
it but he never really truly showed it.
Her left hand lifted to caress his face, he was strong features,
a very handsome man to say the lest. The sharp cheek bones, the full lips,
piercing eyes and a cute nose. He had always complained of it being too big but
she liked it, it fit him perfectly. Her hand slowly found it way to his a hair
stroking his scalp.
He leaned towards her and captured her lips in a passionate,
slow, bone-melting kiss. He imitated with his mouth and tongue what they’re
lower bodies had just done not even an hour ago.
He pushed the robe off her shoulders and she shrugged it rest of
the way to the bench. She released her hand from his and the other from his
hair and slid the sleeves off her arms She wrapped her arms around JC. He
enveloped her in his arms and stroked her back. She immediately leaned into him
and letting him hold her as they continued to kiss. He released her from his kiss to look into her eyes. She had
tears in them, she looked down at him, he was dressed in just his pj bottoms.
She tried to blink back the tears but they just came. She loved him so much and
it was almost overwhelming at times. The feelings she had for me was more
overpowering than anything she had ever felt. She sought release from his arms
and he relented and gave it to her. She stood up and put the robe back on.
She stood there for what seemed like hours just looking at him.
He wondered if he had done anything wrong but he hadn’t done anything he hadn’t
done before. Except…he held him hand on her stomach, he’s never done that. He’s
never caressed her there, but what difference would that make.
“Do you want this baby?” She asked with inquiring eyes.
“Of course I do, what would make you think otherwise?”
“You never seem excited or happy about it. I mean you say you are but you never
seem to show it. Then you, you touched my stomach…Josh that’s the first time to
me that you’ve ever showed me that you like the fact that you’re going to
be a daddy. It’s such a little gesture
but I just there were more of them. “
He didn’t quite understand. It was just a little gesture, but he guessed
something like that meant a lot to her.
He looked at the spot where she
had been sitting on the bench.
She turned away and walked towards the entrance of the huge
parlor. She walked towards the stairs. When she finally reached the master
bedroom at the end of the long hallway on the second floor. She crashed onto
the bed, she sought out sleep but knew she would not find any there, not alone
anyway. She went to the bathroom.
Stepping into the humid sanctuary that was the shower she just
let spray of hot water sooth her emotions. She didn’t quite understand why
something so little as a touch could do that to her. She couldn’t grasp it all.
All she knew was that he would not follow her. He would just play that beautiful
grand piano in the dark.

Piano In The Dark
When I find myself watching
the time
I never think about all the
funny things you said
Where is it leading me now
I turn around in the still of
the room
Knowing this is when I’m gonna
make my move
Can’t wait any longer
And I’m feeling stronger but
oh
Just as I walk through the
door
I can feel your emotion
It’s pulling me back
Back to love you
I know I’m caught up in the
middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no, gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When he plays piano in the
dark
He holds me close like a thief
of the heart
He plays a melody
Born to tear me all apart
The silence is broken
And no words are spoken but oh
Just as I walk through the
door
I can feel your emotion
It’s pullin’ me back
Back to love you
I know I’m caught up in the
middle
I cry just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no, gave up on the riddle
I cry just a little
When he plays piano in the
dark
