Ai no Kusabi is a hardcore yaoi (boy x boy) sci-fi anime. The OVA is based on a novel by Rieko Yoshihara (sadly available in Japanese only). The location is Tanagura, a city ruled by a super-computer called Jupiter. The humans in this world are reproduced through genetic engineering and you actually don't see any females in the anime. The population is ranked by the hair color, and Jupiter made the blondies the top race and above humans. THe blondies are created sterile and emotionless. Since they are 'above humans' they also don't have sex. However, for entertainment they have humans from lower social ranks have sex or engage in sexual acts in front of them. These lower class men are called 'Pets' and they have cock rings (*g*) that can only be taken off by their master. The master (blondie) can only have the same pet for a year and doesn't have sex with him. The blondies also have bodyguards that are called 'Furniture', also lower class humans, and they're castrated.

Long ago, there was a rebellion of a group of humans who wanted to break free from Jupiter's control. The rebellion failed and Jupiter granted the rebels' wish and threw them out of the city to the slums and took off their identities and citizenship. These people are called Mongrels and they reproduce naturally and considered even lower than the lowest class of Tanagura.

This is the background of the anime which you only get from the book, but at the beginning of the fansubs, the translators put a little summary to explain the settings.

Anyway, the story is about Riki (my fave character from this anime). He's a mongrel living in the slums and leading a gang called "Bison". The story starts when Iason Mink, the top Blondie and the favorite son of Jupiter rescues Riki and takes him in as a pet, breaking rule #1 that mongrels cannot be pets. He falls in love with Riki and breaks rule #2 - he has sex with him! Iason kept Riki for 3 years (breaking rule #3 - keeping a pet for over a year), and then releases him hoping that Riki would come back on his own will. Riki regroups with his gang, but things aren't going to be the same. Guy, Riki's best friend and maybe more, starts to be obsessed when he learns where Riki was for 3 years, and the story develops into a tragedy from here on.

I really recommend this anime, if you can get your hands on it.

Riki

Also known as 'Riki the Dark'. a very proud mongrel that seeks freedom. He has an attitude and is very smart and sexy. Wouldn't you keep him as a pet?? ;p He was 17 when he became Iason's pet, and i guess 20-21 for most of the anime to the end.

Iason

The top blondie that became more human because of Riki. His friend Raul (another very high ranked blondie) warned him about his relationship with the mongrel, but Iason doesn't care. He just wants Riki to be happy and with him. He gives Riki freedom, but wants to make sure he still owns him. 'If you love somebody set him free, if comes back - he's yours.' - and if he doesn't come back, make him ^^

Katze

He's a redhead and used to be Iason's furniture (ya, you know what that means!). He's very smart and gorgeous. He's got a scar because Iason caught him do naughty things (not that kind of naughty things.. he's fixed remember?). Now he's a black market dealer and helps Iason & Riki around.
