Behind the camera

Why this site?
Tiago and Alexandre met for the first time in 1992, but only several years later they found out about
the several points in common in their photography.
More recently, these two photographers broke the habit of working alone, and cooperated
in several projects, like the ones presented here.
The joint efforts result in a more fluidity in their work and both benefit from sharing experiences.
Even when photographing the same theme, their identity is not at risk. Au contraire, it
enhances the diferences between their visions and modus operandi.
This sites serves to organize ideas and exhibit some selected work, both independent and team work.

Alexandre Vaz
Born in Lisbon in 1974, has collected some sparse formation in the areas of
creative writing, drawing, engraving and history of art.
Photography has been self-taught since he inherited a camera from his
grandfather.
From that moment he has been tacking an increasingly
number of portraits, travel, journalism, nature and wildlife pictures.
Has participated in several projects, mainly related to Ornithology,
both professionally and as a hobby.
He also worked in environmental organizations.
Alexandre likes to think about his photographic work as being spontaneous,
emotional, pure and intimate.
Tiago Silva
Tiago's wildlife photographs, sometimes accompanied with his texts, have been published ocasionally in magazines, books
and technical reports.
This site is the first premeditated effort to promote his photographic work.
His scientific background has forged him a methodic way of thinking. On the opposite, the photograpy allows
him to work more freely, guided mainly by aestethics.
Nevertheless, he likes to deal with his subjects in a methodic way, fundamented in the
biological knowledge of his subjects.
Controlled conditions
The images in wich the photographic object was deliberately manipulated or restrained - captive or
handled animals, modified elements of the scene, etc. - are marked in the legend with (C).
