EXFOLIATING

This is where a skincare regime begins !!

I would guess that 50% of all people do not exfoliate and that is an underestimation !

It puzzles me as to how people expect skincare products to work effectively if there is a layer of dead skin on the surface !! It is vital that the skin is exfoliated once a week if normal/combination/oily.  Your cleansers, toners and moisturizers will be able to do what you expect of them.  Exfoliating on a regular basis will result in you using less moisturizer too.

A very natural exfoliant can be made at home.
1tbsp White Sugar mixed with 2tbsps cold water applied using circular clockwise movements will loosen any dead skin from the surface.  Massage very gently so that you do not damage the surface of the skin.  Rinse with warm water.  Please remember to mix the sugar with cold water or the sugar granules will dissolve !!!!!!  Use as soon as prepared.  Do not store for future use as the sugar will in a short time dissolve even in cold water.  This might sound obvious to you but, I have known people to do this and ask me why the 'recipe' did not do as I said it would !!!

1tbsp of fine oatmeal (porridge oats)
mixed with 2-3tbsps tepid water and applied in clockwise upward movements acts as a very good exfoliant too.  Remove with a muslin cloth dipped in cool water then rinse the face well.

Honey can be used instead of water to mix with the oatmeal. Honey has healing properties.  Please use the runny honey !!!
Again this might sound obvious to you but, you've guessed.......others have tried to mix set honey with oatmeal and make a 'workable' paste !!!

MOISTURIZE

This is the final stage of any straightforward skincare regime.

Moisturizing hydrates the skin.  We all lose moisture from our body during the day.  For that reason it is important to moisturize on a morning.  Your face will also be protected from pollution which is everywhere now.  In moisturizing you are in effect re-hydrating and protecting.  Before bed a moisturizer replaces any moisture lost during the day.  It works throughout the night as the skin is at rest.  A very easy and simple to use method of moisturizing is to apply a few drops of either Avocado or Almond Oil.  Massage well into the skin, do not use too much, your skin will tell you when it has absorbed enough.  If you have a film of oil on the face then you have applied too much.  At bedtime however, you can apply more because during the night your skin will absorb the oil slowly and down to a deeper level.

An excellent moisturizer to make at home is as follows.......

2 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
     2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
30mls Sweet Almond Oil
(or Grapeseed oil if you have a nut allergy).
Contents of 1 Vitamin E capsule.
1 Brown glass medicine bottle.
It is important to use a coloured bottle when including essential oils as they lose their properties when subjected to light.  If you cannot find a dark bottle then store your product in a dark cupboard.

Simply mix all of the ingredients together adding the essential oils last.
Pierce the Vitamin E capsule, squeeze out the contents and stir well into the mixture.  Place a lid on the small bottle you are using and shake for a minute or so to ensure that all ingredients are blended.

In adding the vitamin E you are in effect slowing down the ageing process.
It prevents pollutants from affecting the skin by their method of oxidization. In much the same way that when an apple is cut open and left in the air, it goes brown.  Unprotected our skin too, oxidizes.  We do not go brown, we wrinkle !!!  Though we do develop what we term age spots or liver spots on our face and body.

If you love the smell of roses ,
(and who doesn't?),  then the following moisturizer is excellent,  and the aroma is out of this world!!!

1 drop Pettigrain Oil
3 drops Rose Oil
30mls Almond or Grapeseed Oil
1 Vitamin E capsule

The method of making this moisturizer
is exactly the same as above.  As are the storage instructions so I shall not bore you by having to read the same thing twice !!!  Rose Oil soothes and calms the skin and the mind too !!!
