Sweet Vetch

The Sweet Vetch (Hedysarum boreale), is a member of the Pea or Legume Family. It is non poisonous, the roots edible and nourishing. It grows two or three feet high, has pinnate leaves, and rose purple flowers in racemes. The pods are constricted between each seed, which is a positive identification. This plant makes a very handsome hill cover.

In "Mountain Plants of Northeastern Utah", from Utah State University, this plant is called the Northern Sweet Broom.
