Stickseed

The Stickseed (Hackelia patens) is a member of the Borage Family (Boraginaceae). It is about two feet high, with Forget-Me-Not type blossoms, which are white marked with blue. The seeds are barbed, and are great hitchhikers, thus the name.
In "Mountain Plants of Northeastern Utah", from Utah State University, two similar plants are described: "The Stickseed is a common plant on our foothills in May and June. It grows about two feed high, with a few erect or ascending branches growing from the base. The Forget-Me-Not like blossoms are white, marked with blue. Hackelia jessicae closely resembles it, but has blue flowers marked with white. They both have nutlets armed with short barbed prickles, which give them their common name."
