The Hound's Tongue (Cynoglossum officinale) is a member of the Borage Family (Boraginaceae). It has dark maroon flowers.

In "Mountain Plants of Northeastern Utah", from Utah State University, it is described as follows: "A stout, erect, leafy plant, two feet tall. It is a native of Europe and Asia that has become well established all over the United States. Its leaves and stems are grayish green, and soft pubescent. It blooms in May and June, with dark maroon red flowers, each slightly less than one half inch across. The seeds are covered with short barbed prickles."
