"Child of the Earth"

Beauty and the Beholder

One year, on a UNSS camping trip at the Little Sahara Sand Dunes (before dune buggies), I had seen one of the fascinating insects, the Jerusalem Cricket, (in Mexico called "Nina de Tierra" -- Child of the Earth). I was telling a friend about this beautiful polished, jewel-like insect, when she broke in, "We saw the most horrible insect I've ever seen in my whole life!!"

Explaining it... it turned out to be the very same insect I was describing as "beautiful" ... It is all in the way you look at it, and understand it!
