Hakase Sun, is well known on the REGGAE/SKA scene of Japan as Keyboard player of the LITTLE TEMPO band. Beside I know this Reggae Man! since a couple of years, I'd realized of his soloist career just a little time ago, with his 3rd release, a 2004 fresh brand new record tittled "SHANTY REGGAE MAGIC". The tittle name make us think inmediatelly on the creator of the Reggae Organ Style, the late great JACKIE MITTOO, and this is right as Jackie is one of HAKASE's primary inspirations, and this is quite visible on his beatiful music. The record have 12 songs and is almost instrumental except for track 5.A PERFECT DAY FOR CAT'S CRADLE on wich the guest singer and lyrics composer is "Next pine Daisuke" from THE MICETEETH band that is also MC on track 1.SHANTY SHANTI I on wich another guest "Nozaki" sing female chorus. Other guest on this record is "Shinichiro Akihiro" from DREAMLETS on Guitars. All the songs was composed by HAKASE, with only exception on track 8.DA YA THINK I'M SEXY?, an instrumental SKA version of famous Rod Stewart's classic tune. The record have a super Cool climax that will make you fly for over an hour long, from start... to end on track 12.DO RE ME CHANT, a soulful NIYABINGHI. Also is good to say that mostly the instrumentation and Riddims on the Album was played/programmed by HAKASE himself on his house, and even better, the record was finally mixed by Henry Holder at Sparkside Studio (London, UK)and mastered by Kevin Metcalfe at the Soundmasters (London, UK). HAKASE is my personal friend, and he promessed me an even better new record for 2005 so let's wait for it in the meantime we enjoy this actual "SHANTY REGGAE MAGIC"!.
