Sponaugle (formerly Natalie Germann) is a Canadian
singer/songwriter who was born & raised in Creston, BC. She
had her
first piano lesson at age 4, and studied classical piano all throughout
her school years, up to the grade 10 Royal Conservatory level. After
a couple years spent traveling around BC and parts of Europe,
Natalie decided to move to Vancouver Island to take the Jazz Studies program at
VIU in Nanaimo where she studied voice and piano. This was her first time
really being exposed to improvising with music. Her two years spent at the
music program led her to branch out, not only in her songwriting and original
project, but in many other styles of music as well. She learned how to play the
banjo and mandolin, and joined a number of different projects where she sang
and played a wide range of genres from reggae to indie-rock, folk to
bluegrass, alt rock to jazz. In 2008 she released her first solo album
self-titled "Natalie Germann". In
the years that followed, Natalie made original music her focus and gigged
regularly while trying to figure out just what style of music is was that she
wanted to be writing. In December 2010 she fell in love with the sound guy at a
local bar she frequently played at. This fellow (David Sponaugle) an avid
musician himself, would eventually become her bandmate, husband, and musical
collaborator. In their first year together, Dave encouraged Natalie to record
another album and after three years of pre-production, recording, and
music-making they released the full-length album "Tuck the Waves to Sleep"
under the new band name "Nat". One month later, Natalie & Dave
were married. Today, Natalie & Dave continue to play live -
both as a duo and with the full band. They both work at local music
stores, and Natalie's also taking correspondence courses - all while continuing
to pursue her musical career. In 2015 she started teaching piano, vocals, and
guitar and has a new-found love for teaching others music! Looking ahead at the
days to come - you can expect to hear new sounds coming, and some more media
too! |
