The Legend of The Dream Catcher

The Old Ones tell that dreams hold great power, and that both good and bad dreams drift about in the  night air before coming to the sleeping ones.

To keep the dreamer safe, the Old Ones created a special web, called The Dream Catcher, to hang above their sleeping places.

Traditionally, Dream Catchers were made at the time of birth of a new child and were hung above the infant's cradleboard.

When dreams traveled the web paths, the bad dreams, not knowing the way to go, got lost and were entangled tightly in the web.  They would disappear with the first rays of daybreak when Grandfather Sun arose and burned them away.

The good dreams, knowing the way, passed through the
center and trickled down the feathers and were guided gently to the sleeping ones, ensuring peaceful dreams..

The legend of the Dream Catcher is recognized by most tribes, and the Dream Catcher is kept throughout life. Personal objects are hung from the web and hoop to increase the connection with the owner.
