Sleep

Friend to some, warm and welcoming, the day's sweet release. Like a
feather drifting down to earth, sleep's protective arms enfolding and
freeing all at once. Ah, sleep's promise of dreams, pulling us in and
taking us away.

Sleep is also foe to some, who fear it's shadowy depths. Those who
try to grasp what others enjoy, warmth and comfort and the feeling of
Mother's good protection. Oh but to dream to dream is to fear. To
fear is like death. The unknowing, the unfeeling, the helplessness of
dreams.

I stand on the threshold of sleep, wondering what it will bring. Will
it embrace me as a welcoming fire embraces the weary traveler? Or
will it elude me and send me twisting and turning, searching for one
moment of comfort, one moment with out pain? I take a breath and step
off
