| Lost by biidsis They took everything, everything. Our homeland, our dignity and pride. They looked on us as a defeated people, less than human. They moved us, as wards of the government to the last places in the world they would want to be. Our language beaten from us and we were degraded for observing our culture. They took everything, our children stolen from the rez and forced to go to their schools. Our very way of life, lost. But in all this can you see? They took our land, something we do not own. How can we own our Mother? The culture they took, lost? No, our Grandfathers keep it alive for us. A medicine bundle hidden in the walls of a fort. Ceremonies, in abandoned buildings with blankets tacked up over the windows. Did they break our bodies? Yes, but our spirit lives on, in the past, in the now and in our children. They took everything, and yet we lost nothing. We lost nothing! bangan biidaaban |
