| Title Valley of Blessings by winddancer852 It was the time of year where the land wears it's great coat of white. The people of the village had prepared as best they could for this cold season, storing berries, ground corn, strips of venison, and herbs were stored for adding flavor to stews. Maple syrup was stored to make favorite treats. The people stored these things in the ground, outside the teepee's. They stored them like this so the rodents and other pests could not get to them. A slab of dried clay was then placed on top of the hole to completely seal the foods. It seemed this year the cold long dark was worse than the year before and the year before that. The animals became more scarce and the people became more worried. What have we done to anger the gods?,asked the elder OneTooth, as she looked around the group she realized how many young and old ones they had already lost. There was a pain in her soul that her people were passing away before her very eyes. Something must be done to save our people. The elk no longer pass our way to thier eating grounds, the buffalo have chosen another way too, one that is not so hard to reach in the deep snow. It seemed all the animals realized that they would have to go further south to find food. With all the animals leaving it could cause the death of the people. StandsAlone sat in the circle with the others, but his mind wandered to plans on how he could save his people from starvation.Sure they had stored a lot of food but with so many people it would not last long. People needed fresh meat to help thier body's stay strong.Yes thought StandsAlone, I will speak with our healer Lone Eagle. Maybe he can help me help our people. StandsAlone slipped away to find his friend and mentor Lone Eagle. He called to the old one to bid him entrance. A man could freeze to death in a matter of minutes if not very careful. As StandsAlone entered the dwelling the scents of the herbs and medicines came upon him in a multitude of aromas. Bundles hanging from the top of the teepee held herbs. Roots and berries lined the floor in baskets of differant shapes and sizes. Looking further back he could see Lone Eagle sitting in the dim light. Long flowing white hair, his face lined with many moons of age and pathways & trails of knowledge. But his eyes...The clear and bright light that shined from within told all that his body was old but his mind and soul were still young and sharp... Come warm yourself by the fire. What is it you seek StandsAlone? Lone Eagle I have come for guidence. I am troubled by the hunger among our people. What can I do to ease the suffering of our people? Where can I find more food? I have also been wondering said Lone Eagle.I have prayed and was shown a valley to the South that was so beautiful and the animals were everywhere. Most of our people do not want to leave our lands here. But when all is said and done they will see, to exsist we must change and move forward. StandsAlone and Lone Eagle talked long into the night. As the owls stood watch over the village and the wolf on the hill howled at the golden moon, plans were made to help the people. The sun rose slowly on the eastern sky this morning. StandsAlone watched it's breathtaking glory. Today he would put his plans into action. He would talk to his two best friends Running Horse and Grey Bird to see if they would join him on this journey for the people. Of course said Running Horse, You already know we will said Grey Bird. StandsAlone thanked them and told them to meet him on the hill when the sun started decending in the western horizen. They parted and StandsAlone continued walking and thinking, never going far from the village. He only hoped they could find this Valley of beauty. He called on Wise One Above to aid them in thier journey. It was time to go join his friends and start pulling things together. If possible they needed to leave at first kiss from Sun Woman.
