| Walk With Me by artnsolitude As my little girl lay sleeping, her breath came soft and light The Doctor said my daughter may not make it through the night. My angels heart has done its best, to hold her love inside. Now its had enough, her time is near, Im right here by her side. I looked down at my baby girl, so innocent and small, How strong and brave she had to be to hold on for so long. But somehow time has ended and the battles all been lost. Just like her mom the time has come to pay the final cost. Lord, please help me understand, why must you take her now? Her mothers gone, I'm all alone, can't you help her through, somehow? When morning comes I need her smile to fill me with her love, And if you take her home my sun will never shine above. She calls to me with fevered eyes, once so blue and clear. As I reach up to stroke her hair, I see a single tear, I hold her little hand in mine and lean in close to hear, The whispered words she says to me are wise beyond her years. She says, Daddy, will you promise me you'll be there when I go, Will you walk with me and hold my hand, so I won't be alone. Will you give me hugs and kisses and do the funny things, Before I walk into the light where mommy waits for me? I whisper yes to comfort her and kiss her little chin, I hold on to that smile that I may never see again, She squeezes on my hand so tight, takes a breath, and sighs, She winks an eye to say goodbye and closes them for all time. I ride alone to my empty home, tears well in my eyes, Driving blind and much too fast, dont see the detour sign. I turn too late, out of control, a barricade of steel. I hit head on and much too hard, I'm pinned against the wheel. My head is spinning, reeling colors, swirling in my mind, I feel like every chord is struck and singing deep inside, I fear the worst may be the best that I could hope to be, And as I give my life away, her words come back to me. She said, Daddy, will you promise me youll be there when I go? Will you walk with me and hold my hand, so I wont be alone? Will you give me hugs and kisses, and do the funny things? Before I walk into the light, where Mommy waits for me? -------------------------------------------------- I wake to see my little girl, smiling up at me, Behind her is a brilliant light, that we alone can see, She says, No, dad, I wasn't scared, I knew that you would come. You always keep your promise, hold my hand and walk me home. So together we walk hand in hand, onward to the light, We come upon a womans form, shining in the night, She holds her hands out lovingly, and on her lips a smile, She takes our daughter by the hand, to walk the final mile. Now in my heart I know the truth, my family still lives, Forever in the afterworld, a comfort knowing gives, I hold their hands one to a side, to feel again their love, And deep within the soul, I owe, my thanks to God above. We walk for moments hand in hand, now closer to the light, I stop them for a moment and I hugged them one last time, Now it's time for me to go, I hear them call me home. And they give me for eternity, their sweet undying love. I wake when someone speaks to me, they found me just in time, Images and memories, dance around my mind, Now in peace I close my eyes and drift away to sleep. From now until the end of time, I pray to God, their souls to keep. Someone said a bell would ring, when my angels got their wings, I think I heard the bells last night, last night was Christmas Eve. ************************************************** Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep. And if I die before I wake, I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to take. 11-26-00, Artnsolitude |
