The Fire Without and Within

What new wonder
There is in my world-

(There in your eyes
Like the hot embers
Of the campfire
Where I sit, wanting)

It's gotten wider
And wilder
With the sound
Of howling-

(Yours, mine, the wolves
Just beyond the flickering light)

The new growth
Of my soul
And its desire
For knowledge
And you.

(Hungry, always hungry,
Like the beggar at the feast)

I am silent, montionless
Wondering at the emergence
Of that which is unknown-

(Unacknowledged, this part of
My starving soul
Which craves notice
From your wild heart)

I creep slowly,
Ever closer, to the
Warmth and heat

(Kinship, Blood of my Blood
In my bones and sinew
The rush of Recognition)

That is You
Who is Me;
We are Kindred.
