I Saw It All

He stood high on the mountain,
He gazed and wondered. I stood close by.
He saw the clouds and the trees of the forest but
he barely saw them at all. I stood beside him.
He didn't see me at all.

He saw the eagle graceful on the wind but his eyes did not catch
the rabbit hanging in the clutch of death. But I did I saw it all.
He watched and I saw him smile like a revelation
had found him. But in truth, he saw nothing at all.

The wind blew and he shivered as though he had been touched by something unseen.

I smiled, he did not see me at all.

He looked across the valley floor from the summit. He saw nothing and he heard nothing.

But I did ...I saw it all. I saw the campfires

of the many villages far down below. I heard the laughter of the children and the rumble of the great drum.

His thoughts were of his troubles and he saw them in their greatness. I stood there right beside him.

He didn't see me at all.

Again the wind blew and it chilled him, he felt but ignored what was there. The hands of the ancients. They were all that broke his fall.

He smiled at his luck, but still he saw nothing at all.

The world that he lives in brings wishes for a closer dream. But when it touches his arm, he didn't feel a thing. I saw them there, close by, watching. He didn't see them at all. Wake up white man before you make the fall.

It wasn't luck that held you back.

It wasn't luck at all.
