A Cherokee friend of mine was raised near the Oklahoma and Arkansa line. Her Dad worked for Fort Sill taking the rough of their new horses. Onces a month or so they would travel by wagon to the Fort to get his pay.Always just before they`ed get there their folks would tell to stay in the wagon or the Fort Indians would get them. There were 13 kids in the family, but they would all stay in the wagon and wait. In the winter they traveled to New Mexico where her Dad worked for a Spanish Rancher. This was the only time they got Schooling as they lived so remote. When she was 9 her 2 older Brothers who had moved to Michigan, talked her Dad into coming up here. It was the first time she had ever ridden in a truck or Car. Her Dad learned to drive on the way here. Once here she started regular School and ended up Graduating Valvictorian of her Class. It wasn`t til she was older she realized the joke their folks had played on them to keep them in the wagon.:) They were Indian too! She went on to marry my hubbys cousin and raise 3 kids. But thats another tale.
