The Magical Attic

I remember the Magical Attic,
Where my sister and I would play.
It was located in Mum Mum's house.
In a place now far away.

Whenever we spent the weekend.
We'd spend hours on end up there,
Playing dress-up and house-mom,
Playing with dolls, or styling our hair.

Two curious little girls we were,
In a place that held such treasure.
We explored every nook and crany,
Our happiness was beyond measure.

In the Magical Attic we never fought
Never an argument, or cruel word spoken,
No one tricked, or harmed anyone,
And no promises were ever broken.

Sooner or later we'd head down stairs,
Where Mum Mum served toast and tea,
We'd be pretty tuckered out by then,
And as happy as two girls could be.

Come morning Mum Mum would make pancakes,
Which she knew we loved to eat,
She would shape them like animals,
To make it a special treat.

Then off to the Magical Attic,
To see what we could find,
We'd always put everything back,
So Mum Mum would never mind.

We found some old stuffed animals,
Enough for a make-shift zoo,
And lots of trunks and boxes,
We couldn't wait to go through.

In a box we found bangle bracelets,
Rhine-stone broaches and some rings,
There were clip-on earrings, hair combs,
And necklaces too, all beautiful things.

Side by side we looked at old photos,
In the Magical Attic where we sat,
We laughed about that scary time,
We were invaded by that bat.

We remembered how Mum Mum chased it,
As we ran from room to room.
She gently tried to guide it out,
With the motion of her old broom.

And after it all happened,
We went right back up to play,
We'd never let a bat or anything,
Ruin our searches, or our day.

A special effect the Magical Attic,
Had on my sister and me,
Up there we always got along,
Like with sisters, it should be.

We sorely missed our Mum Mum so,
When she had passed away,
And we also missed her attic,
Our very special place to play.

Now so much time has passed,
And we have now grown apart,
To think about how we were then,
Brings a sadness to my heart.

I have not seen her lately,
In truth it has been years,
Now memories of the Magical Attic,
Makes me well up in tears.

Sometimes I wonder what if,
I drove over to her place,
Putting our differences behind us,
Our painful past we'd erase.

We'd have a brand new begining,
And would vow to never part,
I'd forget the way she hurt me,
And the years we've spent apart.

I wish that I could drive us-
To the place now far away,
We'd remember all the fun we had,
In our favorite place to play.

I'd take my sister by the hand,
And up the stairs we'd go
Back up to our Magical Attic,
The place we did love so.

We would remember our dear Mum Mum,
And all of the fun we had,
My sister and I would get along,
And never would we be sad.

This wish I know that I can't have,
Someone else lives there you see,
It's no longer Mum Mum's house,
And so this could never be.

I wonder now, who like us,
Has played in that Magical Place?
If they held such great memories,
Always bringing smiles to their face?

I hope my sister thinks often,
Of the priceless times we had,
I am sure she must remember,
And I am sure sometimes she's sad.

So maybe I will write her,
Send a poem from my heart
Maybe it will break the ice,
We'll have a brand new start.

We will remember our dear Mum Mum,
And have some toast and tea,
Maybe we will make some pancakes,
Special animals for my sister and me.

Could the Magical Attic's spell,
Bring my sister back to me?
Is it still reaching out to us,
Teaching us how sisters should be?

Could this place hold our memories,
Reaching out to her and I?
Or maybe it's our Mum Mum,
If she knows how much we cry.

Maybe it is both of them
Waiting for our feud to cease,
Telling us in their own way,
My sister and I need peace.

Between a rock and a hard place,
It seems we have been stuck,
I will listen to my heart now,
So wish us lots of luck.

I'll send my sister sweet memories,
Of Mum Mum, toast, and tea,
Remind her of our talks,
Of what we'd grow up to be.

She'll see that I still remember
How close that we once were,
And that I feel the need,
To be able to talk to her.

I hope this all works out,
I guess I soon will see,
This is all I think about,
The Magical Attic, her and me.

I think of our dear Mum Mum,
And I know she would agree,
That we should forgive and forget,
And be like sisters should be.

The words are written down now,
And I'll wait for her reply,
We will have no more loneliness,
And no longer will we cry.

I feel this deep in my heart,
That this is the thing to do,
And all will be worked out soon,
Because she feels just like this too.

It would be nice if everyone,
Could have a very special place.
That holds them close together,
And keeps a smile upon their face.

I believe our Magical Attic was,
A truly magical place to be,
And our dear Mum Mum was,
A very magical person you see.

Mum Mum and her Magical Attic,
Once kept us together you see,
They'll bring us back together again,
Forever united, my sister and me.
