You get up and curse the alarm clock. Maybe you hurried the kids up to dress
them and get them ready for school. Maybe you stopped in the middle of the
rushing to grab out lunch money that you forgot to set out the night before.
Maybe you stopped to sign a permission slip or 9 weeks report card that wasn't
signed the night before. You drop off the kids and jump back on the subway or
stand to hail a cab. You get to work, get on the elevator and ride up, hurrying to
your desk. You open your computer, check schedules, thinking all the while, "In
a minute, I will run get a cup of coffee."

Suddenly, you hear a loud BOOOOOOOOM!

What was that?

Slowly it dawns on you and you are transported into the land of the absurd, time
stands still as you realise a plan has hit the building next door. You smell something
funny. Everyone heads for the stairwells. You open the door to a surreal world of
people going down the stairs.....all going down the stairs. A few scared, a few silent, a
few edgy, but all making their way down the long corridor of stairs. People in front
and behind you as you go along, trying not to loose your footing.

You make it down some flights and hear the loudspeaker, "All clear, everyone
can return to their areas." You turn around with part of the crowd and maybe
leave the stair well to get on the elevators since it is all clear. You start to head
back up to your desk and the windows.

Another BOOOOOM!

This time, louder.

You wonder, "What was that?" You get out and find the building you are in
has been hit. Luckily, you are below the crash site and you start back to the
stair well, a little more winded and more frightened. Endless on and on and on
you go, people in the stairwell a little more intense, more frightened, more intent
as again you try not to loose your footing in the crowd. You go down and down
and down and it has been almost an hour now and you are still in the stairwell
headed down. Maybe you hear a loud crash as the world plunges into darkness.

You wake up. "Where am I? What happened? So much pain. So dark."
You reach into your pocket and find a cell phone, feeling for the buttons and praying..."Please work, please work." It does as you call someone and hear a
voice and you say, "I am here."

By now, you have been "here" over 24 hours. No food, no water, pain, darkness. Wondering in the darkness. Alone in the darkness.

Time goes on. So much rubble, so much effort and unable to reach them.

I sat at my desk today. I drank my morning coffee. I drove home and noticed the lightening bugs are gone for the season. All the little lights blinking in the night.

Gone.

I miss the lightening bugs...
And last week.

Take care out there....moon_grace.
