My Way
by

Institution life was not for me,
I knew it well, had to be free!

Through metal fence, I saw a home,
And thought I'd always be alone.

So education I did choose,
Thus my life, I did not loose.

I learned quickly the white man's way,
And even then, I learned to play.

I learned to work with mind and hands,
And then I travelled through many lands.

Then I learned the elements of piety,
And even passed in high society.

Recognition for studies and work I did receive,
Beyond any measures I ever could conceive.

But in all of this verbiage,
I did not loose my heritage.

Both life and nature at faith's core,
With poetry and stories and much folklore!
