| Fiesty Squirrel by lilshawneewlf One morning while in the house, I heard the strangest sound coming from outside. I looked out my window, and what did I see? (oh dear, this is beginning to sound like that story "'Twas the night before Christmas") I saw one of my cats and this baby squirrel. The noise was so loud sounded like they were beating each other us so badly and all. So I ran out the house and oh what a sight I was blessed to see!!! The cat was trying to get the baby squirrel. BUT!!! the baby squirrel was holding its own!!! All I saw was two tails flying everywhere!!! The cats' and the squirrels!!! They both were flying and bouncing up and down in the air. Then all of a sudden!!! The cat ran from the squirrel into the street to get across the street. Well, the baby squirrel wasn't done with the cat yet!!! Now this cat mind you was a full grown adult male cat!!! Fat, ruff looking--the typical tomcat look you know. Well, like I said the baby squirrel wasn't done with the cat yet! This feisty baby squirrel followed that cat into the street! The squirrel was right on the cat's heels!!! The cat ran and the squirrel stood in the middle of the street looking at the cat while stomping its foot on the ground!!! All I heard and saw was this foot going thump thump thump!!!! Well, I was concerned of the baby squirrel getting hit by a cat, so I ran after it trying to get it out of the street. You will not believe what it did next!!! IT RAN AFTER ME!!!! I saw this and started running up my lawn, up my porch stairs, and into the house slamming my screen door. As I looked out the screen door, I saw this feisty baby squirrel standing in the middle of my lawn looking at me, while stomping its foot on the ground, tail flipping wildly back and forth, up and down. Now while it was doing all this, it was YELLING at me!!! I just know it was cussing me out in its squirrel language. Ok the following morning, I came home from work. I work the graveyard shift at one of the local hospitals. I drove up to the house, and I saw the baby squirrel standing by a tree. I was beginning to become concerned cause it didn't move at all!!! First thing that came to my mind was, "Oh no!!! The cat got my baby squirrel." Well, the next thing was so hilariously funny as I look back upon it. I walked up to it as it stood at the base of a tree. It saw me and it went around the tree. Well, I did the same thing!! I went around the tree after this baby squirrel. Round and round the tree we went dancing and hiding from each other. Remember those cartoons that had the cat and dog running after each other around a tree?? round and round they went??? Well, that is how we looked I guess <laughing quietly> I ran one way trying to see its face and all. It ran the other way, back and forth back and forth. We went around that tree at least 6 or 7 times. Then I finally said, "Ok, this is enough of this!" I pulled out my car keys from my nurses uniform pocket. As I stood on one side of the tree, I threw my keys on the other side of the tree. And the baby squirrel came running towards me, AND I SAW IT!!!! And it saw me!!! Well, up the tree it ran! After it got up the tree some distance, feeling safe I guess it turned and hung up side down. And with tail puffed out and flipping every which way it started cussing me out in its native squirrel tongue once again. <laughing at the thought> I said to it, "Ok, I see that you are ok. That is ALL I wanted to do. So I will leave you alone now." As I was leaving the tree I heard such laughter coming from across the street. I saw one of our neighborhood Elders holding onto her porch wall laughing so hard. As I started to blush very brightly, she said to me in her beautiful voice, "First time I ever saw a human and squirrel dance together." And my reaction was, I just smiled and waved. I mean what else could I do huh???? Moral of the story is: there are so many here, but 2 come to my mind:) 1.) you are always being watched--always by the Great Spirit, and by others around you--animal, insect, human forms all are watching you:) And 2.) It is always good to make someone laugh for laughter is the best healing medicine there is along with love:) |
