| His Wooden Eagle by eaglespirits02 The old Indian man cut a piece of wood From the big tree that fell to the ground during a storm He started carving it into an Eagle Like the one that always soared close to his heart He died before he could finish it His Son worked on the Eagle knowing how much it meant to his Father He worked on it whenever he could which wasn't often Before he died he asked his son to finish the Eagle As it was so close to his heart He worked hard on the Eagle whenever he could He passed it down to his Son in hopes he could finish It before he passed on The Eagle that was a part of his failing heart The young boy finished it but it was too late His Father died before he could see it Breaking the boys heart He put that wooden Eagle away When he turned old, He still had that Eagle hidden away close to his heart When he died, he slowly took his journey to the Great Beyond There, His Maker explained that he should bring nothing with him into Heaven The Red man took the Eagle from his pocket That was close to his heart and said, This Eagle was carved by my many Grandfathers, my Father and I Please Sir, let me have this Eagle to show my Ancestors For it is a part of their hearts His Maker touched the wooden Eagle the man held in his hand His wooden Eagle soared up into the blue sky Now my Son, you may enter with your Eagle The Eagle that has soared into your many Grandfathers hearts Your Fathers and yours Welcome to the Great Beyond where your wooden Eagle Will lead you to the hearts of your waiting Ancestors Anne Leach |
