Footprints In The Sand
by

The old Indian man
Walked alone in the sand
Slowly
Thinking he heard a noise
He turned around to look
To see who was behind him
He was puzzled by the prints
In the sand next to his
They were the prints of two horses
He turned and walked ten more steps
Then stopped
The footprints were keeping up with his
He just stood there in amazement
Thought his worn out eyes and
His worn out mind
Were finally failing him
Then a voice he could hear
"I'm your Indian Spirit riding next to you
On bareback
Bringing along your own horse
So you can take your ride home now
Into that far horizon to the land
Of the Great Beyond"
As the two horses rode slowly
Away through the valley of life
The footprints in the sand disappeared
As if this was only another dream
In his worn out mind
