Down Her Trail of Life

She said.
`Take my wrinkled hand as I lead you down my trail of life
I'll start here on my Indian land where my people once lived
This is where the Red earth was ours
The buffalo roamed the hillsides
The children played down in the valley
My Tribe lived in Teepees in a circle
Around those large shade trees
On top of that hill over there is the Sacred burial ground
Where my older Ancestors stayed until their souls
Left with the Spirits that came for them
Now we can walk down this dark trail
Many of my people died while walking
While struggling through the deep snow
Forced by the white eyes
That rode their many horses
Carrying their Flags that blew in our faces
My people would drop dead one by one
They were left for the buzzards
Their souls I could see drifting slowly in the sky
Beautiful silhouettes shining in the unheated sun
This is as far as I can take you
This is the end of my trail of life
I died in this very spot that my spirit stands on
I will wait for you when it's your time
To take your journey to the Great Beyond
Then you can take my wrinkled hand as I lead you
Down my new trail of life"
