Cries of Her Baby
by

She stood by helplessly as the raging water swept him away,
They baby she gave birth to just that very day.
Nothing she could do,
The rage of the water was more powerful, leaving her alone and blue.
She could hear his fading cries disappear,
As he was swept quickly away with such fear.
She ran beside the river bank for miles and miles,
Never to stop, not even for a little while.
The raging water was gone out of sight,
Now the water was calm as if everything was all right.
She was worn out from her travel down that bank of the cruel river,
The crisp night air gave her a fever.
She died that very night along side the bank of that terrible river,
Died of a broken heart the same day her baby boy was born just to be
swept away by the angry river.
A painted pony was just ahead as she struggled down the long journey
that led her to the Great Beyond, for her it meant going nowhere,
The sadness in her heart was too much for her to bare.
As she passed the pony that was walking slower than she,
She heard a small babies cry coming from a blanket on the ponies
back, could it be?
She recognized the cries of her baby boy,
She removed him from the blanket with tears of joy.
She held her baby close to heart,
Held him tight so nothing could take him from her ever again, never
did they part.
