Shiny Black Raven

An Indian gentleman was taking a walk down
A path he played on when he was a child
When a baby crying caught his attention
He made his way through the tall weeds
Following the cries
An Indian blanket lay under a shade tree
The cries were coming from inside
As he walked closer to look at the baby
Four Ravens swooped down from the tree
They seemed to be its protector
He talked to the Ravens in his Indian language
Then clapped his hands
The angry birds returned to the tree
Inside the blanket was a newborn baby girl
She had shiny black hair that shined bright in the sunlight
Shined like the feathers of the four Ravens
She stopped crying when he held her close to his old heart
He walked slowly down the path to the village
In the company of the Ravens
She was named `Shiny Black Raven'
By the Indian woman who wanted her for her own daughter
Those Ravens stayed close by all the years of her life
When one would die, another would take its place
So the Legend of her life goes.
She shared the same blood and soul as the Raven
Her hair was the same as their feathers
She was Indian but was of the Tribe of the Raven
When she died
She was never seen in the Great Beyond by any of the people who knew
her
Her body was wrapped in the same blanket in which she was found
The Ravens swooped down taking her to their own resting place up
above the trees
She appeared from nowhere and disappeared to nowhere
