| Maple Sugar Memories by � cromokee I remember many years ago when my Wife, my Son and myself were living in an old Farmhouse that had some Hard Maple trees around it...My Son was about twelve years old and I wanted him to know of the "old ways" so I tapped some of the trees. We had a big old Kitchen wood stove, so I bought a new galvanized Wash tub and set it on the Stove and went to boiling down the Sap. Pretty soon the whole downstairs was filled with sweet hot steam...BUT...the Wall Paper started peeling off the Walls in great big sheets!! We were horrified! When my Wife got Home from work, She chewed us out good and proper and made us move our "Sugar making Operation" outdoors.... It was a great Lesson for us both...My Son got a lesson in Syrup Making and I got rid of THAT WIFE!! Some would say that I don't take Criticism well....... Love, Cro |
