| Water's Gift to Me (free verse) by coondogk9 Summer winds bring things so near but seldom is it water. I miss the ponds and lakes I knew casting time after time. The joy of the hook as it pulls and tugs. The creatures habitats. Release the catch for another day, unless it's for supper. I traveled far and wide up and down the rivers. Walk for miles and miles to glimpse a thing of beauty. The peaceful water flow as it forms new banks and beds. The aged rock formations waiting to be explored. Someday I'll return a canoe close at hand. I'll drift or paddle slowly taking in creators gifts. Find a hidden inlet or a cove quite serene. Take in the wildlife or drop a line in deep. Wade in the shallows or a dive and swim around. Sit on the bank for hours, or pick a tree and close my eyes. Was I the first one here? If not then whom I ask? Was it buckskins and leather feet, or a maiden in the pool? Alone you see it all, each sight a new discovery. Your mind reels and winds all pictures of countless words. Vision Quest 2002 T Lovett |
| Water's Gift to Me (rhyme) by coondogk9 Summer winds bring things so near but not these dreams of mine. I miss the ponds and lakes I knew casting time after time. The joy of the hook as it pulls and tugs. The creatures all around me. Release the catch for another day, unless it's supper's specialty. I traveled far and wide up and down the rivers wonder. I walk for miles and miles and hear waterfall's thunder. The peaceful water flow as it forms new beds and banks. The aged rock formations large and small in rank. Someday I'll return a canoe close at hand. I'll drift slowly to see creators gifts to the land. Find a hidden inlet or a cove quite serene. Take in the wildlife from behind a leafy screen. Wade in the shallows or a dive and swim around. Sit on the bank for hours, and hope I'm never found. Was I the first one here? If not then whom I ask? Was it buckskins and leather feet, or a maiden in the pool to bask? Alone you see it all, each sight you discover. Your mind reels and winds, pictures only dreams recover. Vision Quest 2002 T L |
