| Unfound Desire by coondogk9 * * ** C * * The sweat poured from his body as a hot breeze felt like ice chilling the rivulets running down his back. The salt stung his eyes and burned like fire as it mixed with tears streaking his face. The night sounds echoed through the silence. Even the silence made a loud noise. His heart drummed out a melody he didnt want to hear. She was all he had and hed lost her. Shed been abused so much, so often and he feared for her life every night as he lay awake staring at the moonlit ceiling. He hadnt heard from her for days and knew she loved this spot and he took it often to chance meeting her but the last several days hed not seen or heard from her. No one seemed to know where she disappeared to. In fact, he could find no one that even knew her. He was lonely and afraid. He missed her greatly. He stumbled over tiny things his feet and heart were so heavy yet still he trudged on. Hed never give up searching for her. He may never have her for his own but hed make sure she knew he was there for her if and when she ever needed him. endless hours theyd talked together and he listened to her sad tales with a tear. He could do nothing but console but if that is all he could do then that was all he could do. It never seemed enough. If only there was a solution. He saw none and neither did she. They would have to be content with things like they were. He remembered to the second the last time theyd talked. He remembered the fragile kiss, the warm touch of her hand on his face. He remembered her words whispered quietly. He saw the reflection of moonlight in her damp eyes. He remembered the sweet smell of her body, like a bloodhound he could track the scent even now if it were to drift his way. Her skin soft and fresh was like no other hed ever touched. It sent pleasant chills through him every time they met and they touched. It was like static electricity going through him. Hed never known this kind of feeling before and it puzzled him at first, then he thought he understood. But why had it happened now? why couldnt it have been before? Why and why, he asked no one! He looked around and discovered he didnt know where he was. hed never been this far before. He must have walked for hours and not known. His mind had wandered often the past few days and he frequently found himself in some unfamiliar place hed not intended to go. * * * * * * Then he heard it. A girl laughing faintly in the distance. He ran and ran as the sound became louder and more clear. Then he saw her. Only it wasnt her. It was a young couple engaged in private acts and hes surprised them as well as himself. He felt ashamed and before he could apologize they ran away in the dark with her screaming: WAIT FOR ME. He stood staring at the blanket on the ground and it brought back memories. Memories he tried to shake, but they kept coming back. * He must turn back now. it would be daylight before he got back home as it was and hed not slept in days or longer. Who knows, or even cares. He certainly didnt. All he wanted was to find her. He may even take her away if he did find her. But he knew shed have none of that. She had others who depended on her and wouldnt think of breaking their hearts. He guessed they would feel much like he did now. No, he couldnt do that. He knew it. Hed thought the same things before so why would he think it again? He was lost within himself and didnt know if hed ever find his way back alone. Even now his mind was asking him questions. How can his mind act independent from himself? He was afraid now. What if he lost his mind? What if hed ALREADY lost it? What if he werent even alive? Maybe that was it. Maybe she was safe and it was him that had disappeared! Was she searching for him instead? The ghostly figure touched him on the shoulder and spoke with lips unmoving. Shall we go back now he asked? Shall we.and there was silence. And there was total darkness. And then there was nothing. O Vision Quest |
