Stalling For Time

I quietly slipped back into my costume in the cold stall. The steel and porcelain radiated a chill. The bare walls echoed every sound as I stood alone fearing discovery. The smooth scales disappeared under the latex skin as I pulled and stretched with false appendages already connected to my long ribcage. Tiny reflectors inside the face gave only forward eyesight from my own eyes near the top and sides of my head. My split ribbon like tongue wrapped in my cheek hidden away. I heard the door open and peeked through the stall door as I heard the hard footsteps approach. I was almost covered now but I still didnt want to risk exposure. His very life depended on his own actions now. My instincts still on the verge of striking out I tried to remain calm. I heard him whistling some human melody I was unfamiliar with and the trickling sound behind it. At least I could hear now instead of having to feel sound through the walls and floor. Even now vibrations were muted through the soles of my foreign feet. I had just started toward my mouth to place the dentures over my folded fangs when the door burst open. I reacted quickly and before I even knew what happened the man stumbled back clutching his throat, his eyes wide and terrified. He grasped the sink as he turned and tried to hold on but his life was rapidly slipping away. He slowly slipped down and soon his grip slipped from the hard counter surface and I heard the hard thud as his head hit the terrazzo floor. His eyes glared into space and I knew his heart had quit. Then the door opened again and I heard someone yell. GUARD!!! GUARD, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I had nowhere to run. The guard rushed in and saw the situation and drew his revolver. If I even though he would shoot Id have struck him and the other with him in a second but I could see he was just holding me at bay as he called for medical help and backup over his shoulder microphone never taking his eyes off me but holding his revolver pointed at my chest while feeling for a pulse on the mans neck. The medics soon arrived as they were already in the building and the police came in right behind them. 4 uniformed officers took me into custody after a search of my pockets and led me away. I was taken downtown and questioned thoroughly about the incident. I told them I had found him there when I entered. Another officer came in and whispered something to the interrogating detective. His eyes grew large as he listened. Then he took the paper and studied it carefully without a word. He folded the paper and asked me if Id seen a large snake in the area or anywhere near when I entered or on the way into the facility. I told him no in a very calm voice and asked why? He related the ME report showed the man suffered from a massive heart failure due to an enormously large injection of poisonous venom and the marks on his neck were from a reptile much much larger than any encountered in the past. They released me satisfied I couldnt possibly have done it since I was searched totally bare and so was every inch of the mens room they had no suspicion of human foul play. I claimed my belongings and passed out onto the street. Hailing a cab I relaxed in the back seat now able to uncoil inside a bit. My back formed the seats contour as I rested. After pulling to the curb and exiting the fowl tasting vehicle I went into my building and on to my apartment. The accommodations were small but I had no use for large living quarters. Not wanting to go through the motions of refitting my false garb as I was expecting company later in the evening I slipped underneath the bed for a relaxation session with myself. Sorta unwind you might say.
