Pond-er Life
by

Spread across the shallows
where moss and mussels grow.
Minnows team in schools
and perch put on a show.

A lazy catfish stirs the mud
fanning on the bottom,
under the shade of a log,
that's laying there and rotting.

A dragonfly flits its wings
hovering like it's still.
With lace wings like a web
finds a flower and unrolls its quill.

A lily pad so smooth and green
floating on the surface.
Sports its pretty flowers
for God and all of us.

Water gently laps
along the rivers edge.
Washing over pebbles
scavengers often dredge.

On bended wing
a bird scans the ripples.
Looking for an easy target
perhaps one that's crippled.

A turtle slowly makes his way
among the sunken stones.
Stick a finger in the water,
and poofhe goes home.

A crawdad winds its way
backwards in his motion.
Little lobsters of the pond
speeds away at some commotion.

He goes the wrong direction,
it's strange the way he travels.
Flipping his tail under,
then away as it unravels.

All these things we seldom see,
we're in such a rush.
Take a little time and see it,
in the water or underbrush.
