Many years ago when man 1st came to be his coat was splendid. His fur was thick and soft and had a luster unequaled by other animals. He walked on all fours and ate berries, roots, and other vegetation as well as hunted meat. He was slower than most other animals and prowled and hunted continuously trying to fill his belly. The overpowering hunter spirits took mans pelt and produced magnificent robes of the fine luxurious fur. They were regal in every way strutting around in their fine attire. Soon man was on the verge of extinction being so highly prized and much sought after for his pelt. Man tried to disguise himself by taking other skins and draping them over his body but alas he was still recognized and it also prevented him from hunting in a normal fashion which was already hindered. Another creature who was sneaky and wise in the ways of deceit saw what man had done and it gave him an idea. He now pursued man for his luxurious coat and posed as man drawing the hunter spirits close. Then as the spirits advanced on what they thought were helpless creatures the animal sprung from beneath the false covering and devoured the spirit. The spirits were this creatures favorite meal and now the coyote had means in which to procure more spirits.

The creator seeing mans plight and also his nature as being wise and intelligent felt him worthy of advancement in the animal world. He took the fine coat so prized by others and decided no one would want a creature with no hair or the fine fur for distinction and left him with smooth skin. He stood him tall and gave him agility unmatched by others. His front paws became tools of his abilities and powerful legs added versatility to his new life. Now man stood a chance of survival if he learned and profited by his actions. No longer was he the hunted prey, but now he was the hunter.

Coyote soon wiped out the spirits and continued his sneaky ways as man advanced upward in stature and soon ruled supreme.
