| Living In A Dry County by coondogk9 He was just a little prick. He was surrounded by a lot of pricks but to him this was normal. He hadn't had a drink in months and it was beginning to show. He'd pick a fight with the best of them. It didn't matter to him how big or tough you were, he could make you cry. His skin although smooth was covered with deep scars. His sparse stubble couldn't cover them and no one had ever seen him without it. People avoided him as much as they could because of his reputation. He was bad news. He had cousins that practiced the art of healing. Just a touch from them and it was soothing and refreshing. Al and Vera were experts at this, but not him, he'd never be that kind. He was just the opposite. He'd hurt you the 1st chance he got and have no regrets about it. He had no conscience. He was no tenderfoot but if you were you'd better beware. Some say he'd curl up with a rattlesnake and never move. Sunscreen, bah, he was tough. He could stand in 120 degree heat and never sweat. It was child's play to him. Many a day he's spent beside his parents as a youth all day in the hot sun. His parent were gone now, run over by a drunk driver high on corn liquor. His sister was just like him. meaner'n all get out ceptin she had a yeller flower in her ear. She had big ears too. It ran in the family. Ya know. Prickly pear cactus are like that. |
