Death It Does Intrigue Me

It was the shallow sound of tear drops
Upon the cement basement floor,
As they slipped from mournful eyes
Of the girl behind the door.

She huddles in the darkness-
So utterly all alone,
The eerie sound of crying echoes
When there is no wind to moan.

Crying for the life she lost,
In the room she always stays-
Leaking, wet, and desolate,
The room sucked the living from her days.

You see her in the darkness,
Huddling on her bed,
But when you flip the light on-
The room is empty and dead.

Death it does intrigue me-
In all its shapes and forms,
The way the living perceive this,
Inside their houses and dorms.

Behind the tree he's watching me,
Laughing where he stands,
Holding on to the trunk-
With both his little hands.

I'm waiting at the bus stop,
To go to school that day,
But why is he not going too,
He seems to want to play.

I see his pants, his orange shirt,
His hair is thick and black,
He laughs again, far away,
He grabs the tree and ducks back.

He peeks at me, I know not who,
Or why he's at my place,
I try to take in his features,
And find he has no face.

Death it does intrigue me,
The way it never ends or dies,
The agony or happiness-
It's where my interest lies.

It's shapeless and it saddens me,
To listen to the sounds,
My silence never empties out,
For it knows no bounds.

It's trying and it's creeping in,
The lives that some have lost,
They wander alone or with many-
And they chill my breath to frost.

I hear a quiet barking,
From just down the hall,
Whining for attention-
But I have no dog at all.

The kitty pounces on my bed,
And runs up me without care-
I peek from beneath the blanket,
To find that nothing's there.

A child drowning in a lake,
He constantly cries out-
I wish that I could reach his hand,
While he issues his watery shout.

Death it does intrigue me,
And sometimes I must cry-
It's gone before we know it,
It just seems to pass us by.
