| The Crow River by biidsis My parents dragged me there, a kicking screaming little brat...in my heart. They never knew how much i hated leaving my Medicine Lake. i would get lost on Medicine Lake for hours and hours. But here we were and had to make the best of it, little did i know.... Our farm was bordered on the west by the Crow River, it flows from south to north, that in itself is unusual. Oh the things i found there, peace and beauty, goes without saying, but raccoon tracks in the wet river soil, islands with huge fallen but still growing trees. Many things long buried by time, but brought back to us by floods. Things meant to be left there and were with respect. But so much more...another world lived at the river, not far, about 30 yds from the bank was a closely guarded burial mound, not guarded by human, but by spirit, ask anyone who ever came close to it. Further upstream a wonderful stone bridge, i used to sit by it for hours, just dreaming. The mystery of this place is hard to describe...you could feel the Anishinabe who came here before us, in this place, you could hear them singing and feel their spirits pass through you. i used to keep a sketch pad and charcoal there, Mom and Dad found them once as they walked together. After that, if they called to me and i didn't answer, they knew where i was and let me be. The lake was Medicine to me, but the river was so much more. i go there still, in my heart. My prayer circle is there still, and the spirit of my pony carries me there. My face lifted, my arms outstretched and my spirit free. This is my portal to the Spirit Plain. When i need to go there and just be among the Anishinabe, i go from the portal at the Crow River. i got lost for hours at Medicine Lake, but i found myself forever at the Crow River. bangan biidaaban |
