Shoe Box Memories
by

Is this a place
where I can
sit my body
quietly down
observe life
as it flows
around me.
Joining the smells
sights and sounds
creating a memory
to be stored in a shoe box
on the top shelf
of my bedroom's closet.

Pulled out
dusted off
when the memory
begins to fade.
To touch
inhale it
allowing
the vision to come.

Remembering the feel
of the broken
wooden backless chair
against
my bodies contours.
The scent from the fry bread
mingling with
the tobacco's smoke.
The guitar's sorrowful voice
weaving in and among
the conversations
swirling around me.

The memory worn
wrapping its self
around my body
joined with the present
creating a new memory
for the worn shoe box
to be placed back
on the closets shelf.
