Life, Love, Lust
by

Two hundred and fifty degree heat
radiating from
your body
surrounding mine
in an open sauna of
tangled legs
wet
sticky sheets.

Stifling heat
body reaches
to open the window
earning a fraction
of relief in a whisper
of crisp predawn
air.

Gaining further access
it filters down
through my fingers
caressing my arm.
Goose bumps
welcomed.
Body free forming
itself
to the shape
of the jagged
wall
yearning for the coldness
of the snow laden
ground.

Snowflakes
float
through the
half inch
crack made by
frantic finger tips
now lying quietly
in the darkness
not wanting to
stoke the furnace
of your lust.

Cherishing the breath
of space between us
on this burnt out
bed of past desires.
The snow continuing
its downward flight.
Body cooling
skin drying
snow falling
in.

Small movement
not enough to wake
shifting ten years
of marriage's gain.
Left to right
right to vertical
feet down to the worn
oak of the floor.
It creaks
breath held
count to five.

Crawl out from
around this furnace
with its state of
discharged life
waking up to its
inability to love.
Recognizing
your need to feed
through your alcohol
induced lust.

I turn towards the bed
watch the snow.
It floats through
the crack made
by my fingertips.
Gently a mound
forms
on your face.
