Gospel for April
by
arhllm

She called up to the
sky
searching for
her tree's roots.
Offspring of
the first woman
to have fallen
through the hole
in the world
once called
home.

She shivers
the gospel songs come
blasting through
the AM station
on the car's radio.
The bones
of the ancestors
laid out
for public display
playing
in her mind.

The People
treated as cast off
pieces of broken pottery.
Some
ignoring the fall
from the
sky world
with its connection
to the present.

She plays with
the radio's dial
searching for
a new reality
tacking her trough the
static in the waves of air
wrapping around her
mind,
embracing
the bruised, battered
past.
Shattered shards of life
shower in front of her eyes.

The road
ahead becomes
limitless
the sun beating
its warming rays
through the car's
windshield
her mind
clears.
