First Love Remembered
by

I see and hear
what is real
and wish to hide
under the blanket
of red and gold
fallen leaves
leftovers from last years
raking.
Away from the confusion
of mind and heart
missing the thought
of you
in my life
with my make believe
dreams.

Seeing your face
in every stranger
I encounter
my heart skips a
beat.
I love
unconditionally
my life ebbs, flows
over the ripples
formed by the winds
caress across
the lake.

Times rough edges
bring me back
to the present
I see you within
the mirror of the lake's
surface, life hasn't
been rough
the kindness visible
upon your face
behind the years
of absence.
A smile, the lake
shifts and you
become a memory.

I was 15 as was he, we spent our summers on a small lake in PA that had 24 cottages on it, both of us water rats and oh so very young. Andy
