| And Coyote Said by duivich Coyote sat on top of his hill over looking his kingdom, he watched as the people moved about. coyote thought of visiting his friend mouse, and so he traveled to his house. Upon knocking on his door he, spoke, Mouse it is I your brother Coyote, I have come to visit. Mouse upon hearing who it was, immediately ran up the tunnel to answer his door. Hello brother coyote, please come in and sit down while I get you something to eat. As Coyote sat and waited, mouse had brought the seeds and roots he had gathered and offered it to his brother coyote. as they visited, mouse knowing that coyote loved to gamble had opened a package of cards and they began to play. as the time past mouse had mentioned that he had gathered enough winter food to get him through the hard winters. hours later coyote got up and was getting ready to leave, however mouse had wanted his company said; Brother coyote, stay a bit longer and I will run outside and see if had started snowing, so mouse ran out and seen it had started to snow checked the depth and ran back into his house to tell coyote. Brother coyote, it has started to snow but the snow is only just past my knuckles, they continued to gamble. again the hours past and coyote stood to leave, again mouse said: I will run up and check the snow, please sit down and have some more of the delicious seeds which I have baked. So coyote sat down and nibbled the seeds. again mouse returned and said the snow is only to my knuckles and so they played another game of cards. And so mouse and coyote gambled into the night and continued playing until the sun came once again. Coyote then stood and said I must go, since winter is upon us I too must go and gather food to make it through the winter. Mouse then gathered the cards and began cleaning up, each bid the other a farwell. Coyote got to the entrance and pushed the snow but it would not budge, he saw the small hole that the mouse had gone through to check the outside. He pushed with all his might but the snow would move. coyote raced back down to mouse and cried "I am stuck here in your house, the snow has piled outside your door and blocks the way" So Coyote had spent the entire winter in mouse's den and lived with mouse eating seeds and small roots that was gathered by mouse. Spring had finally came mouse returned from outside and said, Coyote my brother please do not be angry with me. Coyote replied that once we get out I will give you a head start but when I catch you I will make certain you never see another winter. mouse then bolted out his tunnel and coyote had crashed through the snow letting him outside, he was free from mouse's home. And that is why, to this day; you will see coyote alone out in the field with his nose in the snow jumping every once in a while searching for mouse. because mouse was light enough to stand on the snow he never sank in, only to his knuckles. and coyote will always pounce in the field searching for mouse, from yesterday, today and into the future. :-) |
